Jason had discovered an unexpected pleasure in being a swap surrogate: dessert.
Before the swap, he had always counted calories and pushed away the pudding menu.
Now, carrying someone else’s baby, he could sit in a café with a generous slice of chocolate cake and enjoy it without a trace of guilt.
He was eating for two, after all.
He took another forkful and closed his eyes as the icing melted on his tongue. Across the table, the baby’s mother laughed.
“You’re going to want another slice, aren’t you?”
Jason glanced at his empty plate. “The baby might.”
At that, he felt a little kick beneath the table.
He rested a hand on his belly and smiled.
