The book of life and death.

 

Sir Thomas Ford had been searching the Egyptian desert for the lost tomb of the Pharaoh Net of the Lower Kingdom. Pharaoh Net was known as a sorcerer who discovered the key to eternal life, eternal youth, and eternal health.

During a fierce sandstorm, he was elated to find what he thought was a cave but was actually a missing block in the side wall of a lost and forgotten buried pyramid. He ventured inside and discovered a burial chamber with a sarcophagus surrounded by gold jewels and Egyptian treasures.

In that chamber, he found a book written in hieroglyphics and began translating its contents. It was the Book of Life and Death, which explained how to attain immortality. The only requirement was to sacrifice the life of someone they loved, taking their essence and energy to extend their own life.

He chose the youngest person he could find: a 21-year-old tourist from America. After taking him, he did not know; he realised the book had left out one crucial detail about eternal life. The soul of the person he had killed would influence him more than he had anticipated. He became a woman, taking on the appearance of the tourist he had slain, inheriting her long brown-blue eyes and strong American accent.
